…I present my top ten games of all-time:
- Tetris (Multi)
- Tempest 2000 (Jaguar)
- Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC/Xbox)
- Final Fantasy VII (PSX)
- Doom II (PC)
- Half-Life (PC)
- The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (PC)
- WarCraft II: Tides of Darkness (PC)
- Sam & Max Hit the Road (PC)
Runners-up: Populous (PC), Quake (PC), Final Fantasy VIII (PSX), Final Fantasy VI (PSX/SNES), Soul Calibur (DC), Phantasy Star (SMS), Fallout (PC), Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars (PC), Super Mario 64 (N64), Panzer Dragoon Orta (Xbox), Halo (Xbox/PC), Quake III Arena (PC), Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC), Marathon (PC), System Shock 2 (PC), Wipeout XL (PSX/PC).
When I thought about this list, I surprised myself by putting Half-Life above Quake 1, but as much as I love Quake 1 (and I do love that game), Half-Life is a better game. Also, Super Mario 64 used to be in my top 5, but it’s certainly plummeted in the last few years as I’ve grown tired of most of the platforming conventions. I still think it’s a great game, but every game on this list is one I fully expect to play over and over again for many years to come, and I can’t say I’m all that motivated to play through Super Mario 64 again.
Still, not a bad list, if I do say so myself.

I can’t believe how many people loved Sam & Max. So many better LucasArts adventures I thought. S&M’s puzzles were just too illogical for me.
I should try to find Broken Sword though. Mind you I already have a huge backlog of adventure games. Right now I’m making me way through Space Quest 4. That’s on my all time favourite list.
Too bad KOTOR2 is eating up all my time …
There are lots of other great LucasArts adventure games (Monkey Island *.*, Grim Fandango, DOTT, etc.) but Sam & Max is my favorite by far…the characters, animations and overall humor in that game just makes it soooo much fun, and that’s always more important to me in adventure games than the general quality of the puzzles (as long as they’re at least somewhat logical, I’m happy).
Man…how good was FF7. That game was just insanely good.
I remember when I bought it, the 4 CDs, the epic storyline, the beginning where you get to control the hulking robots (Before you’re stripped of them)…the music, the storyline, the interactivity!
I mean, from the very moment they give you control when you get off the train…it’s just amazing.
I’ve been wanting to replay this game for years. I think I’m gonna go check ebay now…
Oh, nice list Jason :)
