I created an alias specifically for the deal...now that i've got my iPod, I'll just delete it.

I'd recommend doing the same. I haven't gotten any spam over this (yet), but I imagine some of those offers may inadvertantly put you on a major spam list

Any tips for others following in your path? what to order, what not to, whether to use a "seldom used" email address or anything?

I have an iSkin for my 3G 15 GB model, and it's good, and it offers nice protection, but the silicone leaves scuffs across the base of the iPod, and that kinda sucks.

That Vaja one is awesome, although it's a bit pricey. I'll probably go with the Showcase, but I'll see what they have at the Apple Store just in case.

And for the record, I'm very much one of the "my baby" iPod owners. :)

Nothing wrong with the Showcase, I have a 3G 40GB iPod in one. Only complaint is it's a LITTLE bulky so you may forget from time to time just how small your iPod is. Still, if you're one of those people who goes ballistic because there's a hair on your iPod and it's destroying the sexy finish, then you'll like it.

I also have a 20GB 4G that I've used in an iSkin eXo (wasn't happy) and now an Agent18 Clickshield. Though the very top and bottom of the machine aren't as protected as most other cases do, it's just the right size to slip around your iPod and doesn't do the kind of scratching and scarring that similar cases (such as Contour's iSee) do.

Again, if you're a chromehead or tend to refer to your iPod as "my baby," the Showcase is more for you. If you can put up with a couple of minor exposed areas (and I can, since this iPod went without any case at all for months and months, although it was rarely touched by anything but dust in that time) then you might like the Clickshield more.

If you want the greatest mix of usability/size/protection and money is no object at all, get the Vaja iVod (available in single and two-tone colors) and you'll feel like a king, albeit a king that just lost $70 on a leather MP3 case.
