Back when I posted my games I’m buying this year list, I mentioned that I hadn’t decided whether I was going to get Guitar Hero III or Rock Band. Well, I decided.

I’m getting both.

\m/ ROCK \m/

I came to this conclusion because Guitar Hero III looks downright awesome. I love the new hardware, I love the song list (GNR! Living Colour! Black Sabbath!!), I love the idea behind boss battles and online multiplayer…it’s all great. But then there’s Rock Band, which has a pretty good song list of its own (Rush! Radiohead! Faith No More!!), and a ton of potential, particularly as a party game.

So I decided to jump on that awesome Red Octane pre-order bundle for GH3, and for Rock Band, I’m blowing all of my GameStop credit on the game and all the accessories (unfortunately I have to buy them all separately, since I want the wireless guitar).

Of course, in the process, I also had to cancel my planned pre-order of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. As much as I want to play that next-gen R&C, between the two dueling music games, Halo 3 and the imminent awesomeness that will surely be Mass Effect, I just don’t have the time or money to spend on that right now. So it’s been relegated to the wish list.

It’s a good thing these games are coming out (hopefully) a month apart…by the time Rock Band hits, I should be just starting to get a little bored with GH3, or at the very least, ready for something different. And Rock Band will definitely be a whole different animal…I don’t see myself getting into the vocals (not even a little), but the drums should be completely different from anything I’ve ever even attempted. Seeing as how I have absolutely no rhythm, it should be fun to play around with (on easy, naturally).

It’s gonna be a good year for gaming.
